Mahalaya Paksha or Pitru Paksha is a 15 lunar day’s period when homage is done to one’s ancestors through various offerings; it also relieves one for any pitru dosha. During this Mahalaya Paksha period our scriptures has suggested us to do Tarpanam and Dhaanam. Among ten prescribed dhaanam, Godhanam / Donating a cow is one among them. Those who are not able to donate cows can serve cows by feeding grass, water and helping in its safety for the welfare of the entire family and generations to come.
We are also performing Gopooja and special feeding to cows in our goshala on these days. Performing a Gopooja on this Mahalaya Paksha is considered auspicious and brings enormous progress in our material and spiritual endeavors.
On this auspicious Mahalaya Paksha from September 18th to October 2nd 2024, feed the cows in our goshala by donating the suggested amount or any amount of your choice.
As an offering to pitrus Our Sastras recommended to offer the following to the cows during this Mahalaya Paksha; 1. Soaked Black Gram, 2. Soaked Chickpea, 3. Soaked Sesame, 4.Soaked Raw Rice, 5. Chopped Raw Banana, 6. Agathi Leaves & 7. Jaggery.
